All Puppies tails (no matter the breed) are docked and dew claws done. They will all be up to date on wormings and vaccinations before they go to their new home.
I get some questions periodically about not docking a puppy’s tail. So I will talk about this here a little bit. This is not meant to be a debate or a personal opinion. Firstly, not docking one of my Australian Shepherd puppies tails are out of the question, as to be clear. Here is why, my dogs are AKC or ASCA registered and BREED STANDARD is a DOCKED TAIL. Docking the pups tail isn’t for you, its for the dog. Not docking a tail means you CANNOT enter this dog in any AKC or ASCA shows which includes things like agility, stock dog trials, and confirmation shows. Now you may think well I don’t have any intentions of doing any of that, however life is never what we plan it to be, so if something happens to you or your family (financially, economically, death or otherwise) and you/family are not able to care for the dog any longer this ensures the dog will find another great home. This also applies as to why its important to register your pup with their respective registry (even if you have no plans outside of them being just a pet). All these things are for the protection and benefit for the dog, not the human. I am dedicated to making sure my pups have the best chances even if life throws new owners some curve balls. Unfortunately, most things now a days are if we (people) do not have some kind of monetary value in something it is considered disposable. If I didn’t follow breed standard for a registered pup their value would suffer greatly and I would not be benefiting or protecting the breed let alone the well-being of my own pups. This is another reason all my pups go home with registration papers even if they are only just pets. You are encouraged to register your pets to help ensure their quality of life and their well-being should anything go wrong. If you want a dog with a tail pick a breed WITH A TAIL. There are 47 other herding breeds with only 15% of those having a docked tail, which means there are 40 other breeds to choose from that keep their tail. The herding breeds all have very similar qualities like train-ability, smarts, drive, energy and more.
